From 1990 to 2000, he dedicated himself to Lonely Planet guidebooks on southern South America, and now covers the same region for Moon Travel Handbooks. He has also published newspaper and magazine pieces on Argentina, Buenos Aires, Uruguay, Chile, Easter Island and the Falkland Islands.

Accomplishment, awards
Wayne's Lonely Planet guidebooks on Argentina and Chile sold well over 100,000 copies each through two editions, while the two editions of his LP Buenos Aires city guide sold nearly as briskly. More recently, he has published Moon Handbooks Patagonia, Moon Handbooks Argentina, Moon Handbooks Buenos Aires, and Moon Handbooks Chile.

In the process, his work has earned enthusiastic testimonials from sources throughout the Americas:

"The Rick Steves of South America"--Rick Steves

"Moon Handbooks' 'Buenos Aires' guide by Wayne Bernhardson is a superior guidebook -- it's well-written, explaining both the culture and what's available, and he gives the right amount of detail."--Anne Chalfant, Contra Costa Times

"If you've traveled to South America in the past few years, the chances are you've traveled with Wayne Bernhardson"--San Francisco Chronicle

"Wayne Bernhardson knows our country deeply"--Clarín, Buenos Aires, the world's largest circulation Spanish-language daily newspaper

"Well-written essays on history, geography and culture"--Travel & Leisure

"Authoritative and detailed"--Tim Leffel, Transitions Abroad, on Moon Handbooks Argentina

"Part of the strength of this guide is that it includes advice that residents of Buenos Aires employ to get along every day, but that it would never occur to them to write down"--Página 12, Buenos Aires daily

"The quality of Moon Handbooks Buenos Aires is excellent, and its content is practical and trustworthy"--Carlos Enrique Meyer, Tourism Secretary, Argentine Republic

"This book is...so up-to-date as to be superior to any recently published Spanish-language book in our country."--Ambito Financiero, Buenos Aires daily, on Moon Handbooks Buenos Aires

"The gringo who knows Chile best"--Santiago's El Mercurio, Chile's largest circulation Sunday newspaper

"He is a reliable guide, whether taking readers from Argentina's sophisticated cities to its glacial Patagonian peaks or clarifying how the 2001 collapse of the peso affects the traveler. Mixing the standard essentials with strategies for exploring cities, beaches and countryside according to individual interest, he supports his contention that Argentina has become a nearly ideal, and affordable, destination."--San Francisco Chronicle, on Moon Handbooks Argentina
